Destinee Mikaela Keil, 22, of Highland, and Danielle Lea Jones, 35, of Gary, face criminal charges after a reported retail theft at a beauty supply store in Hobart.
Court records show Hobart Police responded at approximately 7:01 p.m. on January 13, 2026, to Sally Beauty Supply in the 7700 block of East Ridge Road following a reported theft.
According to court documents, the store employee stated she was the only employee closing the store that evening. She told officers that three individuals entered the store, and she immediately recognized two of them as people who had previously stolen from the business.
The employee described one female as having pink hair, wearing a dark coat, and carrying a large black-and-gray purse. The second female was described as shorter, with long black hair, wearing a camouflage coat, and having a neck tattoo. A male accompanied the women and was described as having longer hair, wearing a dark-colored shirt, and having neck tattoos.
The affidavit states the male approached the employee at the register and began asking questions about store items. While the employee assisted him, the two females were seen on a reflective mirror above the exit door selecting multiple hair care items and tools and concealing the merchandise inside their purses.
Court records indicate the two females then exited the store without attempting to pay for the concealed merchandise, walking eastbound out of the store.
While officers gathered information, another officer reported seeing three individuals matching the descriptions inside a nearby business within the same shopping plaza. Officers entered that store and located the two women, both of whom admitted they had recently been inside Sally Beauty.
According to court documents, officers asked whether they had taken merchandise without paying. After initially denying the theft, both women opened their purses and handed over the concealed items they said were taken from Sally Beauty.
The affidavit states Jones had hair care accessories and a hair iron concealed in her purse, totaling $126.28. Keil had two hair color items concealed in her purse, valued at $23.78. The merchandise was returned to the store, and the employee provided itemized receipts documenting the values.
Court records further show a review of Jones’ criminal history revealed a prior theft conviction in another Indiana court, resulting in one of her current charges being filed as a felony.
