Two teenagers were arrested Wednesday night after allegedly attempting to break into a home in the Porter Ranch area of Los Angeles, police said.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded around 9:10 p.m. to a report of a burglary in progress in the 12200 block of Beaufait Avenue. Authorities said one of the suspects tried to open the back door of the home but fled when the homeowner’s dog began barking.
When officers arrived, they confirmed that no one had entered the home and nothing had been stolen.
Police launched a search of the surrounding area and, with assistance from an LAPD helicopter using infrared technology, located the two suspects hiding nearby. Both, identified as juveniles, were taken into custody.
Investigators said the teens will be booked on suspicion of trespassing and attempted burglary.
The incident is part of a broader rise in burglary attempts across the San Fernando Valley, where more than a dozen similar cases have been reported since early April in neighborhoods including Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood and Studio City.
City officials, including Mayor Karen Bass and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, have acknowledged the trend and say increased patrols and community safety efforts are underway.
