Bicyclist Killed in Metro Bus Crash in South Los Angeles

A bicyclist was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a Metro bus in South Los Angeles.

According to Metro officials, the cyclist ran a red light at the intersection of Compton Avenue and East Imperial Highway in the Watts neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. The bicyclist then collided with a southbound Metro bus.

The cyclist was transported to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Video footage from the scene showed the bicycle trapped beneath the bus following the crash.

Authorities have not released the cyclist’s identity or gender.

“Metro extends its condolences to the family and friends of the cyclist,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

The California Highway Patrol will handle the investigation into the fatal incident.
