Two suspects were arrested after a man was fatally shot inside a pickup truck in Long Beach.
On Jan. 18, police were on patrol when they heard multiple gunshots just before 2 a.m. Officers searched the area and discovered a white pickup truck that had crashed into a light pole in the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway.
Police found the victim, David Alfaro, 33, of Long Beach, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A preliminary investigation determined that Alfaro was shot while inside the truck. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
Following further investigation, detectives identified two suspects in the case: Maliek Dontell James-Morrow, 29, and Buon Henry Um, 29, both residents of Long Beach.
On Jan. 21, Um was arrested in the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, and the following day, James-Morrow was arrested in the 1600 block of Anaheim Street.
Homicide detectives believe the incident began as a dispute that escalated into a deadly shooting. Authorities did not release additional details, including whether the suspects and the victim knew each other.
Both men were arrested on murder charges and remain in custody on $2 million bail.
