Authorities are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after four people, including two children, were found fatally shot inside a home in Rancho Cordova on Tuesday.
Sacramento County deputies were initially called to Copper Sunset Way following reports of gunshots. A man reportedly contacted authorities, claiming he was the shooter and that he had set up booby traps. Multiple units responded to the scene.
Later, deputies discovered four deceased individuals at a home on the 5400 block of Mill Water Circle: an adult male, an adult female, and two juveniles, all suffering gunshot wounds.
Law enforcement now believes the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, carried out by the adult male resident. No booby traps were found during searches of the home and surrounding property. Several firearms registered to the man were recovered, and he had prior military service.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Edward Igoe urged the community to support one another during this difficult time, stating, “As an agency, as a human, as a father, look out for each other and take care of each other in this very difficult time.”
Deputies noted there was no prior record of domestic violence at the residence. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
