A South Florida mother, Cythnia Hernandez, 32, bonded out of jail Saturday night after turning herself in. She faces several charges including child neglect, failure to report child neglect, and providing a false statement to law enforcement.
Hernandez’s attorney, Nicolas Torres, said the state’s case was aimed at making her a witness against her boyfriend, 34-year-old Daniel Eduardo Romero, who is accused of aggravated child abuse of her 6-year-old son with autism. Romero, who is not the boy’s father, remains in custody.
The incident occurred in North Miami Beach, where police responded to a report of a child in cardiac arrest. Body camera footage showed the boy wrapped in a blanket with no detectable pulse. He is currently recovering in the hospital.
The judge set bonds for Hernandez as follows:
-
$7,500 – Count one
-
$2,500 – Count two
-
$500 – Count three
She was also ordered to stay away from her son and cannot own or carry a gun. Hernandez left the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center quietly with a relative.
