South Florida Mother Bonds Out After Son with Autism Severely Beaten

South Florida mother, Cythnia Hernandez, 32, bonded out of jail Saturday night after turning herself in. She faces several charges including child neglect, failure to report child neglect, and providing a false statement to law enforcement.

Hernandez’s attorney, Nicolas Torres, said the state’s case was aimed at making her a witness against her boyfriend, 34-year-old Daniel Eduardo Romero, who is accused of aggravated child abuse of her 6-year-old son with autism. Romero, who is not the boy’s father, remains in custody.

The incident occurred in North Miami Beach, where police responded to a report of a child in cardiac arrest. Body camera footage showed the boy wrapped in a blanket with no detectable pulse. He is currently recovering in the hospital.

The judge set bonds for Hernandez as follows:

  • $7,500 – Count one

  • $2,500 – Count two

  • $500 – Count three

She was also ordered to stay away from her son and cannot own or carry a gun. Hernandez left the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center quietly with a relative.
