A former Mingo County teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been indicted on multiple charges, authorities said.
Kevin Scott Baisden, of Delbarton, West Virginia, was indicted by a Mingo County grand jury on two counts of sexual contact against students by a school employee and one count of soliciting a minor, according to court records.
The indictments follow a report made in December 2024 by school officials who learned of alleged inappropriate messaging between Baisden and a student at Mingo Central High School.
Troopers stated in a criminal complaint filed at the time of Baisden’s arrest in April 2025 that the underage student told investigators Baisden allegedly used a guitar to strike her on the backside and grabbed or pulled her hair multiple times. The complaint also noted that the two would occasionally “play fight,” during which Baisden allegedly grabbed her by the wrists.
After reviewing hundreds of text messages exchanged between Baisden and the student, troopers said it was evident the two were involved in a romantic relationship. Investigators also reported finding messages from Baisden that discussed the student’s virginity and referenced “being connected spiritually.”
Court records indicate the alleged incidents occurred between November and December 2024. Baisden no longer works in the Mingo County school system.
