4-year-old dog who died after ‘courageous battle with epilepsy’ honored in obituary

Oliver H. Machado, a 4-year-old dog, was honored in an obituary published in the Warwick Beacon in January after his death, just shy of his fifth birthday.

“Born in North Carolina, Oliver began life as a determined little survivor,” his family wrote. “He was rescued from living in the wild by Katelyn, who saw him on the side of the road and couldn’t leave him behind. Soon after, Oliver found his way to Rhode Island when his soon-to-be mom saw his little face online and instantly knew he belonged with the Machado family. After a long car ride north, Oliver settled into his new home as if he had been there all along.”

The obituary highlighted Oliver’s playful spirit—he loved chasing bunnies in the yard, tossing toys around enthusiastically, and playing catch.

He also had a humorous side.

“He was also famously flatulent, with a talent for clearing a room in seconds, always leaving behind a trail of laughter and a very proud expression,” the obituary noted.

Oliver was described as gentle and affectionate, deeply loved by his family.

“He will be missed beyond measure by his parents, Ariana and Chris, his sister Gigi, and the many humans and fur-friends of Barstow Road who adored him,” the obituary said. “Oliver has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge, where he has been reunited with his beloved brother, Ulysses. Together again, free of illness, they are surely running like puppies once more.”

His family encouraged donations to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists to help other animals in honor of Oliver.
