A man is facing prison time after officers were met with gunfire while attempting to serve warrants in Kanawha County last year, prosecutors said.
Joel Demarlone James McGee, 18, of St. Albans, pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of wanton endangerment, according to a social media post from the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said McGee fired multiple rounds from both the front and back of the apartment building.
The post states the gun was discharged in July 2025 when officers arrived at a B Street apartment to serve arrest and search warrants.
Investigators say McGee fired several rounds as officers prepared to enter the building.
Investigators said officers did not return fire, and no one was injured when they took McGee into custody.
Prosecutors said McGee faces five to 25 years in prison. Sentencing is set for March 24.
