Drug probe in St. Albans leads to two arrests

Police arrested two men in St. Albans following a drug investigation, authorities said.

Brett Allen Newman, 41, of St. Albans, faces a charge of distribution of fentanyl, while Tevante Deon Hoskins, 30, of Beckley, is charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, according to a press release from the St. Albans Police Department.

Officers with the Special Enforcement Unit carried out a drug investigation in the 600 block of Hansford Street. Police later executed a search warrant at the residence, where they recovered evidence.

According to police, both Newman and Hoskins have prior felony convictions. Newman was previously convicted of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree robbery in a 2012 Cabell County case. Hoskins has a prior voluntary manslaughter conviction from 2016.

Police said Hoskins had been out on bond in Raleigh County before this arrest, following convictions for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm in August 2025 and again in January 2026.

Hoskins and Newman are currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on $50,000 cash-only bonds.
