A 36-year-old Romanian man has admitted to installing credit card skimming devices at several retailers across West Virginia, resulting in roughly $250,000 in fraudulent charges, according to federal prosecutors.
Andrei Fagaras pleaded guilty to access device fraud, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia announced in a news release.
Prosecutors said Fagaras worked alongside another Romanian national, Madalin Olar, 31, to install a skimming device at a grocery store. Olar is currently facing six access device fraud charges in a separate pending case.
Authorities said Fagaras placed skimming devices at nine different locations throughout the state, leading to approximately a quarter of a million dollars in losses for victims.
He now faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison.
