Traffic is moving again on I-64 East after a tractor-trailer overturned Sunday afternoon, forcing a temporary shutdown near Institute.
According to a Metro 911 alert, the crash happened just before 3:15 p.m. at mile marker 50. Emergency officials initially closed the right and center lanes, but later shut down all eastbound lanes to allow crews to clear the scene and reroute traffic.
Dispatchers confirmed that no injuries were reported.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said the overturned truck was leaking diesel fuel, prompting notification of the Department of Environmental Protection.
Deputies believe speed may have played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
