Pre-Trial Release Denied for McHenry County Man Charged With Sexual Abuse of Two Children

Pre-trial release has been denied for a 35-year-old man accused of sexually abusing two children in McHenry County.

Michael Montero, of Lake in the Hills, is charged with five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to prosecutors, the investigation began in late January after a 10-year-old girl reported that Montero had allegedly been sexually abusing her for several years, beginning when she was about seven years old.

During the course of the investigation, authorities said they uncovered information indicating Montero had also allegedly abused another child in March 2024.

Montero was taken into custody and appeared in court Friday, where Judge Cynthia Lamb granted the state’s petition to deny him pre-trial release.

He remains held at the McHenry County Jail and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 20.
