Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who allegedly robbed a woman aboard a Chicago Transit Authority bus last month.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the robbery occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 19 while the bus was traveling in the 3000 block of South Ashland Avenue in the Lower West Side.
Authorities said a 51-year-old woman was on board when a suspect forcibly took her belongings before fleeing the bus. It was not immediately clear which specific route the victim was riding at the time.
Investigators have released surveillance images captured by CTA cameras showing the individual believed to be responsible. The suspect was seen wearing a dark gray hooded jacket, a hat and red shoes.
Police urge residents to remain aware of their surroundings while using public transportation and to avoid distractions. If confronted, officials advise staying calm and not pursuing a fleeing suspect. Instead, they recommend trying to remember distinguishing features such as scars, tattoos or other unique characteristics.
