Firefighters Put Out Blaze at Logan Elementary School; Cause Remains Under Investigation

Crews responded to and extinguished a fire at Logan Elementary School on Saturday morning.

Officials reported the fire shortly after 10:15 a.m., according to a press release from Logan County Schools.

Firefighters arrived within minutes, secured the building and worked quickly to limit the damage, the release stated.

No students or staff members were inside the school when the fire broke out, and no firefighters were injured while battling the blaze.

Logan County Schools confirmed that investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire. The district is coordinating with the West Virginia Fire Marshal to assess the full extent of the building’s damage.

School officials said they are developing a plan to move students into available empty classrooms at Logan Middle School. The principal will contact teachers with details about when they can enter the classrooms to retrieve personal belongings.

If the transition proceeds as planned, Logan Middle School will host an open house for Logan Elementary parents and students so they can get acquainted with the temporary setting.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority,” Logan County Schools said in the release. “Logan County Schools will do everything it can to make this temporary transition as painless as possible for our school community.”
