A man suffered critical injuries in a shooting Tuesday afternoon on the city’s Far South Side.
Chicago police said the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Ashland Avenue in the Washington Heights neighborhood, near a Jewel Osco grocery store.
Police reported that a 32-year-old man was standing in the parking lot when a suspect approached him, pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking him in the abdomen.
The victim was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition. Investigators also recovered a handgun at the scene.
Authorities said the victim and the suspect were acquainted.
SkyCam 9 captured aerial footage of investigators collecting evidence in the parking lot, where police had taped off part of the area.
Officials have not released additional details as detectives continue their investigation.
