Two Akron men were arrested Tuesday afternoon after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash, according to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Amir Xavier Terrell Peake, 26, has been charged with failure to comply with officers and having weapons while under disability. Jail records indicate Peake also had active warrants for violating parole.
Silas Dangelo Hardiman, 21, has been charged with tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability. Authorities said additional charges may be filed following consultation with prosecutors.
According to deputies, the pursuit began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle with New York license plates that failed to yield along Raccoon Road in Clay Township. During the chase, the occupants were seen allegedly throwing items from the vehicle along Route 218.
The pursuit reached high speeds on Route 7 near Gallipolis, and deputies said it appeared a firearm was thrown from the vehicle. Spike strips were deployed, disabling the vehicle before it crashed into a guardrail along Neighborhood Road in Green Township.
Both men were taken into custody and transported to Holzer Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators said a search of the vehicle uncovered narcotics and a semi-automatic handgun. The suspects are being held at the Gallia County Jail pending court proceedings.
