A West Virginia man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a woman was found dead in Clay County, authorities said.
According to the West Virginia State Police, 24-year-old Richard Grad of Maysel is accused of fatally shooting 31-year-old Savannah Keaton of Massillon, Ohio, on Thursday.
Troopers responded to a home in the Maysel area following a reported shooting and found Keaton dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators said Grad had left the area before law enforcement arrived. He later met troopers at another location, where he was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
Authorities said they identified Grad as a suspect after a local gas station employee reported that he came into the business and allegedly confessed to killing someone, according to a criminal complaint filed in Clay County Magistrate Court.
According to the complaint, Grad told investigators he and Keaton were involved in a verbal argument before he grabbed a shotgun and fatally shot her.
