Felony Traffic Stop on I-94 Overpass Causes Traffic Backup

A felony traffic stop led to a traffic backup on a bridge over Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo on Wednesday afternoon.

Police conducted the stop on Sprinkle Road over I-94 on March 4, which resulted in the arrest of a person wanted for allegedly threatening someone with a knife, according to Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety spokesperson Zach Hamelton.

Video from the scene showed traffic halted on the overpass as an officer instructed a driver to turn around. The person filming the livestream said at least a dozen police vehicles responded, with some officers reportedly drawing their weapons.

The incident occurred near the roundabouts on Sprinkle Road.

Authorities said the traffic stop was carried out without any complications.

Hamelton later said the roadway had reopened and traffic was moving normally again.
