Lexington teen indicted in killing of 81-year-old man

A Lexington man has been indicted in connection with the fatal shooting of an 81-year-old man that occurred last year, according to court records.

Dajon Fielder, now 18, was indicted Feb. 24 on charges of murder, first-degree attempted burglary, possession of a handgun by a minor and second-degree criminal mischief. Authorities say the alleged crime occurred in October 2025 when Fielder was 17.

The indictment states that Fielder caused the death of Thomas Kriegel and entered a home on Lakebow Court while armed with a deadly weapon on Oct. 24, 2025.

Police previously reported that Kriegel, 81, was found inside his living room in the 400 block of Lakebow Court with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six days after the killing, investigators announced that a  17-year-old suspect had been charged with murder in connection with the shooting, though the name was not released at the time because the suspect was a minor.

Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed whether the indictment against Fielder is tied to the Lakebow Court homicide, but the details in the charging document match that case.

According to the indictment, this is also the second time Fielder has faced a charge of possessing a handgun as a minor. Records show he was previously convicted of that offense in December 2024.

Jail records indicate Fielder has been held at the Fayette County Detention Center since Dec. 10, 2025. His bond has been set at $1,005,000.

Fielder is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Fayette Circuit Court.
