A driver was detained early Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into a security barricade near the White House in Washington, D.C., authorities said.
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue NW and H Street NW.
According to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, officers with the agency’s Uniformed Division responded to what officials described as a suspicious vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and is being questioned by investigators.
Officials temporarily closed several streets and entrances around the area while authorities assessed the situation.
The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia is assisting with the investigation. Police said no injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
Images from the scene showed police tape, law enforcement vehicles and security personnel — including members of the National Guard — blocking roads north of the White House as authorities worked at the site.
Officials said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
