Man arrested after SWAT standoff at Lauderhill home following reported shooting

A man was taken into custody early Wednesday after a lengthy standoff with police at a home in Lauderhill, Florida, authorities said.

According to the Lauderhill Police Department, officers responded around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday to reports of gunfire inside a residence in the Blueberry Hill community.

When officers arrived, family members told police that a man inside the home had fired four rounds through a bathroom door before barricading himself inside.

Police evacuated the residence and nearby homes as a precaution. Officers attempted to communicate with the man and encourage him to come out safely, but he refused.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to assist. After several hours of negotiations, the suspect exited the home with his hands raised and was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities identified the suspect as Anthony Hardwick, 27. He has been charged with shooting within an occupied dwelling.

Police said no injuries were reported. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
