An 8-month-old child has died following a serious crash in Richfield Township, Michigan, according to local police.
The collision occurred around 3:45 p.m. on March 12 at the intersection of North State Road and Clark Road, officials with the Richfield Township Police Department said.
Rear-end crash injures multiple children
Investigators said a Chevrolet utility truck struck a Jeep Patriot from behind after the Jeep slowed or stopped at the intersection.
The Jeep was being driven by a 29-year-old woman from Richfield Township and carried three children, ages 2, 4 and 8 months.
All four occupants of the Jeep were transported to Hurley Medical Center with serious injuries.
Authorities later confirmed that the 8-month-old infant died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Condition of other victims
Police said one of the other children is now in stable condition, while another remains in critical condition.
The driver of the utility truck received treatment at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Officials said alcohol does not appear to have played a role, but the crash is still under investigation.
