A woman and three young children were seriously hurt in a crash Thursday afternoon in Richfield Township, Michigan, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 3:45 p.m. on March 12 at the intersection of North State Road and Clark Road, according to the Richfield Township Police Department.
Vehicle struck from behind
Police said a Chevrolet utility truck failed to stop and crashed into the back of a Jeep Patriot carrying a 29-year-old woman and three children.
The occupants of the Jeep included children ages 2, 4 and 8 months, all of whom suffered serious injuries.
Emergency crews transported the woman and the children to Hurley Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the utility truck was treated at the scene and later released.
Ongoing investigation
Authorities said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Davison City Police Department, Davison Township Police Department, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and the Davison/Richfield Fire Department.
The intersection remained closed for about four hours while crews investigated the crash.
Authorities later confirmed that the 8-month-old child involved in the crash died from injuries sustained in the collision.
