A 46-year-old woman from Interlochen is facing criminal charges after authorities say she created and possessed child sexual abuse material.
The investigation began on Feb. 9 when troopers from the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post launched an inquiry into the allegations.
According to police, the woman allegedly produced and possessed the illegal material. She was arrested on March 5 and taken to the Benzie County Jail without incident.
Prosecutors charged her with one count of aggravated child sexually abusive activity and one count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material.
Authorities are encouraging parents to talk with their children about internet safety and online risks. The Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provide resources for families on preventing online exploitation.
Officials say anyone with information related to possible child sexual exploitation can report tips through the CyberTipline at missingkids.org.
