A man in Buena Vista Township has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting and killing his former partner’s two dogs and sending her a disturbing photo of the aftermath, according to police.
Investigators say the incident began shortly after midnight on March 16, when the 40-year-old suspect sent a message demanding his ex-girlfriend contact him within minutes or he would harm her pets. When she did not respond in time, he allegedly followed through on the threat and sent her an image showing the dogs fatally shot.
The woman later contacted emergency services, prompting officers from the Buena Vista Township Police to respond to the suspect’s residence. Upon arrival, officers reported seeing the man inside holding firearms, leading them to temporarily withdraw.
Authorities later returned with assistance from the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team and arrested the suspect during a traffic stop nearby.
During a search of the home, investigators discovered evidence including blood trails leading outside, where the bodies of the two dogs were found. Multiple firearms and ammunition were also recovered from the property.
Officials said the suspect was already on probation for prior offenses, which legally barred him from possessing weapons. The case is part of a broader pattern of alleged harassment involving the same victim, with earlier accusations including stalking and property damage.
The remains of the animals were taken for further examination, and authorities say additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
