17-year-old charged after shooting incident in hospital parking lot

A teenager from Detroit is facing serious charges after a shooting in the parking area of Henry Ford St. John Hospital earlier this month.

Prosecutors allege that Trejion Sanders, 17, was attempting to break into vehicles around noon on March 6 when a security guard confronted him.

Authorities say the teen reached for a handgun, prompting the guard to deploy a stun gun, which reportedly had no effect. Officials allege Sanders then fired at the guard, who returned fire and struck the teen in the leg.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment before being transferred to a juvenile detention facility. The security officer was not injured in the exchange.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Sanders has been charged as an adult. The charges include assault with intent to murder, assault causing serious bodily harm, carrying a concealed weapon, felony assault, and multiple firearm-related offenses.

He was arraigned in Grosse Pointe Woods court and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Officials continue to investigate the incident.
