December has arrived, and some Social Security recipients will receive their checks this week, while others will not get them until later in the month.
The Social Security Administration releases its full payment schedule before each year begins, allowing recipients to know when their funds will arrive. The December schedule is now available, and one group will collect two checks instead of one this month.
This comes as people are already preparing for 2026, when checks will be $56 higher than the previous year. Social Security payments received a 2.8% increase to help offset inflation in next year’s cost-of-living adjustment.
Checks for general Social Security groups come out once a week, depending on the recipient’s birthday.
Who gets a Social Security check this week?
Two groups of people qualify for payments this week. One of these groups includes Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, who will receive their checks on Dec. 1.
People who received Social Security benefits before May 1997 will also get their payments on Dec. 3.
What is the December Social Security payment schedule?
The payment distribution follows the recipient’s birthday, with benefits issued three times each month on Wednesdays, according to the SSA schedule:
- Born between the 1st and 10th of the month, expect their checks on Dec. 10.
- Born between the 11th and 20th of the month, expect checks on Dec. 17.
- Born between 21st to the 31st of the month, expect checks on Dec. 24.
Who will receive two Social Security payments in December?
SSI recipients will receive two payments in December, with the first arriving this week and the second scheduled for Dec. 31.
The SSI program offers financial assistance to people who are 65 or older, blind, or living with a disability and have limited income and resources.
Because they receive two payments in December, SSI recipients did not get any checks in November. They were also issued two payments in October.
