Teen arrested after fleeing police with stolen firearm in North Branch

A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he attempted to flee while carrying a stolen handgun in North Branch.

Authorities identified the suspect as Dylan Blackmer of Mayville. According to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 12:39 p.m. on March 26 to reports of a suspicious individual at an apartment complex.

When officers approached Blackmer in a parking lot, they noticed a handgun concealed under his clothing. He immediately ran from deputies, prompting a brief foot chase.

Officers quickly apprehended him and recovered a 9mm handgun, which was later confirmed to have been stolen from outside the county.

Blackmer was arraigned in district court on several charges, including:

  • Receiving and concealing stolen property
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Resisting and obstructing police
  • Felony firearm possession

He remains in custody on a $30,000 bond, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for April 1.

Officials said the swift arrest helped minimize any potential threat to the public.
