A shooting at an elementary school playground in Kaufman County left an 11-year-old injured, with another child of the same age now in custody, according to authorities.
Incident at School Playground
Police from the Crandall Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Opal Smith Elementary School.
When officers arrived, they found an 11-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Victim’s Condition
Emergency responders treated the child at the scene before arranging an airlift to a children’s hospital in Dallas. Authorities later confirmed the victim has since been released and is recovering at home.
Suspect in Custody
Police said another 11-year-old was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe the incident involved only the two juveniles and was not a broader threat.
School Operations Continue
Officials stated there is no ongoing danger to students or staff. Classes resumed as scheduled the following day at the school.
