Former Kentucky High School Teacher Indicted on Child Sex Crime Charges After Alleged Online Contact With Minors

A former high school teacher in eastern Kentucky has been indicted and arrested on multiple child sex crime charges stemming from alleged inappropriate online communication with minors.

Authorities say Zachary Hill, 35, of Pikeville, was indicted on March 5, 2026, on two counts of using a computer or communication system to solicit or promote unlawful sexual activity involving a minor, along with one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Allegations Involving Minors

According to court documents, Hill is accused of contacting two minors over digital platforms while in a position of trust and authority. Investigators allege the communications were intended to facilitate prohibited sexual activity.

The indictment outlines two separate timeframes for the alleged conduct:

  • Between March 1 and May 31, 2023
  • Between August 7 and September 20, 2023

Officials emphasized that Hill’s role as an educator at the time may be a significant factor in the case.

Arrest Made at Judicial Center

Hill was taken into custody on April 1 after law enforcement discovered an active warrant while he was at the Pike County Judicial Center handling a separate matter.

He is currently being held at the Pike County Detention Center.

Employment History and Resignation

Hill previously worked at Shelby Valley High School, where he served not only as a teacher but also as a bus driver and softball coach, according to reports.

He resigned from his position after state police launched an investigation into the allegations.

Charge of Evidence Tampering

In addition to the charges involving minors, prosecutors allege that Hill attempted to interfere with the investigation by damaging or concealing evidence.

Upcoming Court Appearance

Hill is scheduled to be arraigned on April 8 in Pike Circuit Court. During the hearing, he is expected to formally respond to the charges against him.

Legal Outlook

If convicted, Hill could face severe penalties under Kentucky law, including substantial prison time. Cases involving alleged exploitation of minors, particularly by individuals in positions of authority, are typically prosecuted aggressively.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details have not been released due to the involvement of minors.
