Teen Rescued After Quick Thinking at Detroit Store
A 48-year-old man has been charged in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Hamtramck, authorities said.
The incident, which occurred on April 13, triggered a rapid police response after a witness reported seeing the teen being forced into a vehicle at gunpoint.
Witness and Students Help Track Victim
According to investigators, a bystander noticed the victim being abducted and immediately called emergency services. Police responded to the area and began searching for the suspect.
At the same time, students from Frontier International Academy used mobile phones and social media to help track the victim’s location. This information was shared with law enforcement, aiding in the search effort.
Assault Allegedly Occurred Inside Vehicle
Authorities said the suspect, identified as Wayne County suspect, allegedly held the teen at gunpoint and assaulted her inside his van while driving through the area.
The situation escalated when the suspect stopped at a convenience store in Detroit and forced the victim to enter with him.
Victim Signals for Help, Leads to Arrest
While inside the store, the victim discreetly alerted the cashier that she was in danger. The employee intervened, prompting the suspect to flee.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward and arrested the suspect. Authorities recovered a handgun and took the vehicle into custody as evidence.
Multiple Serious Charges Filed
Prosecutors have charged the man with several felony offenses, including:
- First-degree criminal sexual conduct (two counts)
- Kidnapping
- Felonious assault
- Multiple firearm-related charges
He was arraigned in court and remains in custody as the case proceeds.
