Fatal I-94 Crash in Washtenaw County Claims Ohio Driver; Investigation Ongoing

A deadly crash on Interstate 94 in Washtenaw County is under investigation after a 44-year-old Ohio man lost his life early Saturday morning.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash around 6:25 a.m. on April 18 in Sylvan Township.

Preliminary reports indicate the man, a resident of Fostoria, was driving a Toyota Matrix westbound on I-94 during rainy conditions when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck several small trees before crashing into a large tree on the driver’s side.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
