Driver Arrested After Deadly Hit-and-Run Kills 52-Year-Old Woman in Kentucky

A 52-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Franklin County, and police have now arrested the driver they believe is responsible.

According to the Frankfort Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:35 p.m. on April 20 along an access road off U.S. 127. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the victim, identified as Carey Covington of Frankfort, later died from her injuries at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Authorities say Covington suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirmed she was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m., and an autopsy was conducted the following morning.

Following an investigation, police identified Tyler Couch, also of Frankfort, as the suspected driver. He has been charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, and falsely reporting an incident.

Investigators say the additional charge stems from statements Couch allegedly made to law enforcement after the crash, which they believe were misleading.

Police had earlier urged the public to come forward with any information, emphasizing that even small details could help move the case forward and bring closure to the victim’s family.

The case remains under investigation.
