Near-record warmth possible in South Florida Friday ahead of cooler temperatures for Christmas

Near-record warmth is expected today, with highs reaching the mid to upper 80s across South Florida.

The CBS Miami Next Weather team forecasts a high of 85 degrees in Miami.

The previous record for Miami is 87 degrees, set in 2016.

The average high temperature in Miami is 78 degrees.

The forecast high for Fort Lauderdale is 85 degrees, while the previous record stands at 86 degrees, set in 1961.

Conditions will remain mostly dry, with partly sunny skies and only a few isolated showers possible.

The risk of rip currents is low along the Atlantic beaches. There are no alerts or advisories for boaters along the Atlantic waters and Key waters.

A cold front will move in later today, bringing cooler conditions by Saturday morning, with lows dropping to the mid-60s along the coast and the low 60s inland.

Highs will climb into the low 80s on Saturday and Sunday, accompanied by plenty of sunshine. Rain chances remain low as drier air moves into the area.

Early next week, high temperatures will trend closer to normal, settling into the more seasonable upper 70s.

Winds will increase, and rain chances will stay low, with only a few showers possible each day through the middle of next week.

Plenty of sunshine is expected on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with highs remaining in the upper 70s.
