SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Sanford Police Department said one of its officers has been arrested on 79 counts of official misconduct.
Officer Ronny Neal was relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave last week.
Authorities allege that Neal created fake off-duty assignments and billed the city for those hours on his time sheet.
“Based on the criminal investigation, it was determined that from October 1, 2023, to July 28, 2024, Ronny Neal created fictitious Off-Duty details, then charged the City of Sanford on his time sheet for working them. Probable cause was established to arrest Ronny Neal, on 79 counts of Official Misconduct, Third Degree Felonies, and one count of Organized Fraud, a Second-Degree Felony,” the police department stated in a press release.
Officials said additional charges may be filed.
Neal had served with the department for more than 20 years.
