19-year-old arrested in fatal stabbing of stepfather in Castaic

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his stepfather was found stabbed to death inside a Castaic home, authorities said.

The suspect, Terrance Crawford, was identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded around 1:35 p.m. on Feb. 14 to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 32000 block of Ridge Top Lane. Inside the home, they found 62-year-old Bruce Whitney lying on the living room floor with multiple stab wounds.

Despite life-saving efforts, Whitney was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified Crawford, the victim’s stepson, as the primary suspect. He had fled before deputies arrived.

Authorities later located Crawford in the Los Angeles area and took him into custody on suspicion of murder.

Officials have not released additional details about a possible motive or the events leading up to the stabbing.
