A police pursuit in Broward County ended in tragedy Friday night after a vehicle crashed into a canal in Parkland, leaving two men dead and another man under arrest, according to investigators.
The incident began when a 2025 BMW X1 fled from officers with the Sunrise Police Department during an investigation into an unspecified incident. Officers reported the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Nob Hill Road and Loxahatchee Road before it was lost from sight.
While searching the area, the officer later located the vehicle submerged in a canal along the north side of Loxahatchee Road in Parkland, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities arrested 26-year-old Anthony Davis at the scene. He is facing charges including robbery by sudden snatching with a firearm or weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
Two other occupants inside the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Jerome Taylor and 31-year-old Kelby Broward-Richardson, were initially missing. Multiple units, including aviation, K-9, drone, and dive teams, were deployed to search the canal.
Later that evening, both men were recovered from the water by BSO’s Dive Team and pronounced dead.
Investigators believe speeding played a major role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events leading to the fatal incident.
