According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched on Thursday, March 26 to the 2600 block of 24th Street for a welfare check after the man failed to report to work.

When officers arrived:

  • No one answered the door despite signs someone was inside
  • Deputies were forced to enter the residence
  • Evidence of a fire in the kitchen and living room areas was discovered

Inside the home, authorities located the victim, later identified as Robert Baker. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
