Huntington felon pleads guilty to possessing a firearm

Prosecutors said a Huntington man has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Lovus Austin Brewer, 28, entered the guilty plea on Thursday, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Brewer was arrested on May 4 after the Huntington Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at a residence in Huntington. Officers located Brewer at the scene and recovered a 9mm pistol from him after he raised his hands at their request, the release said.

Prosecutors said Brewer had two prior felony convictions: a conviction for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine in Wayne County in August 2017 and a conviction for fleeing with reckless indifference to the safety of others in Cabell County in September 2022.

Because of those convictions, Brewer was prohibited from possessing a firearm and was arrested after officers found the pistol on his person.
