Cold Blast Brings Wind Chills Into the 30s Overnight in South Florida

A cold weather alert was issued Thursday evening as a blast of frigid air moved into South Florida, bringing falling temperatures and strong, chilly winds overnight.

A cold weather advisory is in effect for Broward and Miami-Dade counties from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday. Wind chills are expected to dip to around 35°F or lower, particularly during the early morning hours. While a freeze warning remains in effect farther north, South Florida will mainly contend with cold wind chills rather than actual freezing conditions.

Temperatures will drop quickly after sunset Thursday, falling through the 60s and reaching the lower 50s by 11 p.m. A steady cold breeze will make it feel even colder, with inland areas possibly already in the 40s late tonight.

The coldest air is expected before midnight, earlier than usual, with conditions gradually improving after sunrise as temperatures rise Friday morning.

Advice: Anyone working outdoors or traveling in the early hours should dress warmly and prepare for colder-than-normal conditions.
