Evening Crash Shuts Down U.S. 30 in Merrillville

A multi-vehicle crash closed a section of U.S. 30 in Merrillville Thursday evening, according to police.

Merrillville Police said an officer observed the crash around 9:10 p.m. on January 15, 2026, at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Merrillville Road.

The collision involved three vehicles, and all occupants suffered serious injuries. The Merrillville Fire Department and emergency medical personnel responded to assist the victims. One passenger was airlifted by medical helicopter to a hospital in the Chicago area for further treatment, while the remaining injured individuals were transported to local hospitals.

The Merrillville Accident Team was called to investigate the crash. Eastbound U.S. 30 at Merrillville Road remained closed for several hours as crews reconstructed the accident.
