Two Killed in Violent Crash on Powerline Road, Renewing Calls for Speed Enforcement

Two people died Thursday night in a violent two-car crash on Powerline Road at Northwest 40th Street.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is investigating the collision, but family and friends identified one of the victims as 65-year-old Teddy McCall Sr., a local landscaper.

Jose Hernandez, who was nearby when the crash occurred, described the impact as sounding like an explosion. Moments later, he witnessed a family member collapse upon learning the victims had not survived. “The moment I heard that my heart was froze,” he said.

Deadly History on the Same Stretch

This section of Powerline Road has seen tragedy before. A year ago, 80-year-old Barbara Price was killed while crossing the roadway in a hit-and-run incident. The drive

r was never found.

Residents say speeding is a persistent problem along the stretch between Oakland Park Boulevard and Prospect Road.

Residents Push for Stronger Enforcement

Floyd Carter, who knew Price, said speeding on Powerline is “out of control.” He and neighbors are urging BSO to increase speed-enforcement patrols to prevent further deaths.
