San Bernardino County detectives announced an arrest in a 2001 murder cold case, nearly 25 years after a woman was found dead in Hesperia.
The investigation began on April 14, 2001, when Suzanne Sites-Fenton, 32, was reported missing by her husband after failing to return home from a night shift at the Mervyn’s store in Victorville.
Deputies said Suzanne took a break and walked into the store’s parking lot but never returned. Her car was found abandoned the following day with evidence of a physical altercation nearby.
On April 16, 2001, Suzanne’s body was discovered in a remote area near Mariposa Road and Ranchero Street. Investigators determined she had been kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and shot. No suspect was identified at the time, and the case went cold.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Cold Case Homicide team reopened the investigation in 2025. Detectives identified 51-year-old Raymond Silva Gonzales of Hesperia as the suspect. He was arrested after deputies served a search warrant and was booked at the High Desert Detention Center, where he remains in custody without bail.
Authorities continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact SBSD’s Homicide Detail at (909) 890-4904.
