Skirmish Line Forms After Man Stabbed Near MLK Parade Route in South L.A.

A stabbing near the end of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade route in Leimert Park sparked a large police response Monday afternoon, with officers forming a skirmish line as crowds gathered in the area.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded at about 1:58 p.m. to reports of a stabbing near Stocker Street and Crenshaw Boulevard. According to police, a 40-year-old man was stabbed after several people attempted to intervene in an altercation.

Multiple fights later erupted in the area, prompting LAPD to establish skirmish lines and issue a dispersal order as crowds spread into nearby streets close to the parade’s endpoint.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said crews were initially dispatched to the reported stabbing but later canceled their response. Police confirmed the victim was taken to a hospital, though his condition was not immediately known.
