The fire was reported near mile marker 18 by Merritts Creek, prompting crews to shut down eastbound lanes of I-64 as they worked to contain the blaze.
Firefighters are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible and to use caution while traveling nearby due to ongoing emergency operations and traffic delays.
