Crash on Highway 46 Leaves One Driver Dead, Two Others Injured

A 20-year-old man was killed, and two others were injured in a crash on Highway 46 near Wasco Saturday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the crash occurred around 1:16 p.m. on January 17, 2026, involving a 2003 Toyota Camry and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.

According to CHP, the Toyota was traveling eastbound, while the Chevrolet was westbound. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with the Chevrolet. The driver of the Chevrolet attempted to swerve but could not avoid the impact.

Emergency responders pronounced the 20-year-old Toyota driver dead at the scene. The Chevrolet driver and his female passenger sustained moderate to major injuries and were transported to a Bakersfield hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
