uthorities have identified a man found dead near a homeless encampment in the Willowbrook area of Los Angeles earlier this week as former NFL player Kevin Johnson, according to multiple reports.
Investigators discovered Johnson’s body early Wednesday morning in the 1300 block of East 120th Street, prompting a homicide investigation.
Sky5 was overhead as law enforcement officers searched the encampment, which is located next to an overpass.
Johnson, who was believed to have been living at the encampment, suffered stab wounds and blunt head trauma, TMZ reported, citing the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators have not released any suspect information, and the motive for the killing remains unclear.
Born in Los Angeles, Johnson played in the mid-1990s for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Oakland Raiders. He was 55 years old.
