4 Men, 1 Teen Arrested in Little Havana Shooting That Killed Woman

Miami Police have arrested four young men and a teenage boy in connection with a fatal shooting in Little Havana that killed 39-year-old Desiree Gonzalez in late December. The arrests also relate to a separate shooting on January 22 involving some of the same suspects.

The arrested adults—Jeferzon Mendoza, Abraham Estrada Solano, Cristian Reyes, and Mauricio Jose Baquedano—are between 18 and 19 years old. The fifth suspect, a minor, has not been publicly identified. Charges include first-degree murder, attempted murder, accessory after the fact, tampering with evidence, and firearm offenses.

Police said Gonzalez, who was experiencing homelessness, was not the intended target. Surveillance footage showed the suspects on motorized bikes exchanging words with two unknown men outside a mini market before opening fire. Gonzalez was struck as she stepped outside, and nearby vehicles were damaged.

The suspects were later linked to another January 22 shooting in the Little River neighborhood, where several armed individuals engaged in a fight and fired at another group. Investigators connected the incidents to an ongoing feud in the area.
