A freeze warning has been issued for parts of South Florida as a significant arctic blast moves into the region, according to the NEXT Weather Team.
Heavy rain ahead of the cold front is expected to move through Broward, Monroe, and Miami-Dade Counties starting around 11 a.m., continuing into the early evening. A statewide wind advisory goes into effect at 2 p.m., with sustained winds of 15–25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.
Following the wind, temperatures will drop into the lower 30s, with inland areas in Miami-Dade and Broward experiencing near-freezing conditions by Sunday morning. Wind chills will make it feel like the low 20s across the metro areas. Miami is forecasted to reach 35 degrees, marking the first freeze warning for these areas since January 9–10, 2010.
While South Florida is too dry for snow, snow is possible in the Tampa Bay area on Sunday, and a separate snow band south of Jacksonville is being monitored.
Another surge of cold air is expected Sunday night into Monday morning, likely extending the freeze warning until Monday afternoon, with frost potential into early Tuesday.
